Key Dates

  • Options Evening is Wednesday 26th February 2020 Wednesday 4th March 2020 5.30 -8pm.
  • Deadline for completed options forms is Wednesday 11th March 2020.

Support

  • Students will have an assembly discussing the process and the possible destinations after Bruntcliffe Academy before the Options Evening, to encourage them to think about life after Bruntcliffe Academy.
  • Curriculum Leaders will create a slide to show in lessons in order to create excitement around their subject and to educate students on the potential courses.
  • Students can request additional guidance from Miss Ashe, Academic Progress Leader, or Miss Gill, Senior Vice Principal, if required. In addition, they also have daily access to their form tutors who are more than happy to discuss options.

Pathways

All students will be allocated a pathway; the chosen pathway allows our students to compete for places in Post-16, university and the workplace with the very best in the country. As always we are highly aspirational for all young people and know that positive experiences and excellent examination grades make a real difference in later life.

Pathway A

The highest attaining students are on Pathway A; this Pathway is designed to allow our students to compete with the very best in the country. Students on Pathway A will study the English Baccalaureate set of subjects, this is the gold standard in education.

Students will complete GCSE Citizenship in Year 10, this should apply to all students on Pathway A. If this is not in the child’s best interest, then it will be delayed until Year 11.

Pathway B

This Pathway is designed to allow our students to select to complete the English Baccalaureate if they wish but also allows students the flexibility to not select a Modern Foreign Language.

This Pathway will ensure the highest possible standards in English, Mathematics and Science.

Students will complete GCSE Citizenship in Year 10. If this is not in the child’s best interest, then it will be delayed until Year 11.

Some students will be selected to study GCSE Statistics over the course of Year 9 and 10. This will be examined at the end of Year 10.

If a child has not met the expected standard of the National Curriculum in Key Stage 3 they will be required to complete additional study in these areas. Once they have met the required standard they will resume their KS4 Options.
