Earlier in the year a group of our Year 10 Geographers entered the Made in South Leeds competition in partnership with White Rose shopping centre, Landsec and Aheadpartnership. They were challenged to design a Leeds themed water bottle and marketing campaign focusing on sustainability and single use plastic water bottles.
In January they attended a masterclass from mentors and managers at the White Rose Centre with Mrs Bentley and Miss Burrows, including a tour of their sustainability programme (who knew there were bees living on the roof?)
The students then set out to produce their own designs and campaigns with the help of Ms Jones. After a final visit from their mentor this week, the students attended the White Rose on Friday morning to compete against other schools in an Apprentice style pitch, for a chance to get their design printed onto Chilly’s water bottles and sold in the White Rose Centre.
Unfortunately, neither design was selected as the winner but the feedback from the judges commended our students’ confidence, designs, research and passion for the competition. We are extremely proud of how well they performed on the day and hope the individuals who received praise for being “an unforgettable presenter”, “full of humour” and “destined for a career at the BBC” are equally as proud of themselves.
